Editorial Policy
How the legal content on StateLegalDocs.com is researched, written, kept current — and, just as importantly, what its limits are.
Our Sources & Approach
Each state page and document template is built from publicly available primary and secondary legal sources — the text of state statutes, official state legislature and government websites, and reputable public legal references such as the Cornell Legal Information Institute (LII).
Where a state page states a specific rule — a security-deposit cap, an eviction notice period, a notarization requirement — we aim to cite the governing statute so you can read the source yourself. Many pages link directly to the relevant state legal resources.
What We Can and Can't Promise
We work to make our content accurate and current, but we want to be transparent about its limits:
- Our content is not written or individually reviewed by a licensed attorney, and using this site does not create an attorney–client relationship.
- Laws change frequently. Despite our efforts to keep pace, content may not reflect the most recent amendments, court decisions, or local ordinances.
- General templates cannot account for the facts of your specific situation, which can change what the law requires.
For these reasons, our templates and guides are informational tools, not legal advice. Before relying on any document for an important matter, verify the details against your state's official sources or consult a licensed attorney in your state.
How We Maintain & Update Pages
Document pages carry a “last updated” date so you can see how recent the information is. We revise content when we become aware of relevant changes in the law, when a reader reports a problem, or as part of periodic review.
A licensed-attorney review of our state content is a planned improvement. Until and unless a page states that such a review has taken place, you should assume it has not.
Found an Error? Tell Us
If you believe something on the site is inaccurate or out of date, please email [email protected] with the page and the issue. We review corrections and update pages when a change is warranted.
How the Site Is Funded
StateLegalDocs.com is free to use and is supported by advertising. Advertising does not influence the legal information we publish — our state content is based on the sources described above, not on any advertiser relationship.
Not Legal Advice
StateLegalDocs.com is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. The content on this site is for general informational purposes only and is not a substitute for the advice of a licensed attorney regarding your specific situation.
